While many people may be used to prevailing norms when it comes to plumbing fixtures, the sheer amount of time people spend in bathrooms means new designs for such products can realize incredible gains in efficiency, sustainability and accessibility. That\u2019s why <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/architizer.com\/brands\/roca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roca<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the Barcelona Design Center created <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jumpthegap.net\/?utm_source=Architizer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">jumpthegap\u00ae<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an international design contest for young professionals and students to rethink what a bathroom could be through the lens of conceptual architectural products. The competition is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/contest.jumpthegap.net\/register\/?utm_source=Architizer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">open for registration<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> until March 27th, while the submission deadline is on April 25th.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"responsive-embed widescreen\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"jumpthegap\u00ae 8th Edition (2018 \/ 2019)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gA3mWtHiSUU?start=77&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">jumpthegap\u00ae<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> awards two prizes of \u20ac10,000 each to winners in professional and student categories, while an additional \u20ac6,000 prize from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We Are Water Foundation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is awarded to a project that represents advancement in equitable and sustainable uses of water. A pneumatic motor on the end of the structure is engaged to keep the chosen shape molded in place while a faucet above the motor fills the tub with water. After taking a bath, the water is discarded and the pneumatic motor is turned off, allowing the shell of the tub to collapse into a thin, suitcase-like configuration, saving space when it\u2019s not in use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The innovative aspect of \u201cPanacea\u201d lies in its ability to take a shape and size set by its user. Since the shape and size of people\u2019s bodies varies greatly, setting a custom shape for one\u2019s bathtub means using only the amount of water their body needs and not a drop more, which is essentially impossible using today\u2019s standard, one-size-fits-all bathtubs. Since its inception as a biennial design competition in 2004, \u201cJump the Gap\u201d has judged over 2,900 project submissions from more than 20,000 participants representing 134 different countries. The entry process is completely digital and limited to two A3-sized PDF pages. The first page should introduce the project, and \u2014 in less than 600 words that accompany the design\u2019s graphics \u2014 explain WHAT the project is, <strong>WHO<\/strong> it\u2019s designed for, <strong>HOW<\/strong> the product works and <strong>WHY<\/strong> it will be relevant in the future.
