The company caused a stir the following year when it unveiled a working 1:3-scale model at ThyssenKrupp Innovation Center in Spain. The model a featured a pair of 32-foot-high shafts shared by four cabs to demonstrate linear motor technology, which is based on magnetic levitation (Maglev) trains.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Thyssenkrupp has reportedly conducted successful tests of the system at their new 800-foot-tall testing facility in Rottweil, Germany, the tallest elevator test tower in the world.<\/p>\n<div class=\"responsive-embed widescreen\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TK Elevator MULTI now reality \u2013 world\u2019s first rope-less elevator for high-rise buildings\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E7QlAsxJP-g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2>A Refresher on MULTI<\/h2>\n<p>MULTI proposes a circuitous system by using 90-degree turning equipment and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2075-5309\/5\/3\/1070\/htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electromagnetic levitation technology<\/a>. This combination will move more cars per shaft \u2014 vertically and horizontally \u2014 ultimately reducing waiting time for an elevator to an estimated 15 to 30 seconds maximum. To ensure safety, multi-propulsion and braking systems in the cabins will be employed, as will the manufacturer\u2019s TWIN elevator safety control system that already has a proven record.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_81YJc2u_lU\" width=\"713\" height=\"401\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sideways capability will allow passengers to now move to all parts of a building, significantly increasing efficiency,\u201d says Brad Nemeth, vice president of sustainability for Thyssenkrupp Elevator Americas. The system is also enables the seamless transportation of passengers to nearby infrastructure such as parking garages. \u201cYou\u2019ll no longer see this hard division between how you get to a building and how you transport within a building,\u201d Nemeth added. \u201cOver time you\u2019ll see those lines disappear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thyssenkrupp also commissioned TU-Dresden to develop a new, lightweight cabin that would be compatible with the new technology. First, it can increase passenger capacity while reducing the elevator\u2019s overall footprint in a building by half, thanks to the removal of ropes and linear motors.
